How to install Steam Workshop mods and maps

Do you want to add mods or maps from Steam Workshop to enhance your server? This article will tell you how to install Steam Workshop items to your Unturned server.

This process will require your server to be restarted. If you do not know how to do this, please see this article here.

Gathering ID numbers for each Workshop item:

The first thing you will need to do is gather a list of all mods and maps you want to install from Unturned's Workshop. While there is no limit on how many mods you can have, your server's performance can be impacted greatly depending on what you install. When you find the right item, make a note of each item's ID number by checking the address bar above, as pictured below.

Installing content using the Workshop manager

Now that all of your items have been collected, you can begin the process of configuring your server to download and use them in game.

1. Login to the Modern Hosting Game Panel and select the server you want to change.

2. On the Console page, click "Stop" to shut down your server before making any changes, and then click on "Workshop".

3. On this page, you will see a list of your server's current list of Workshop items. Click on the blue add button in the bottom right corner to add a new item.

4. Enter the ID of the Workshop item you found earlier and click the "Add Workshop" button. The name of the item's name and it's ID should now appear on the list.

If you want to delete something, click on the trash can icon on the far right for the item you want to be removed, and click "Yes, Remove Workshop" to confirm.

5. Head to the Console page, and click "Start" to power on your server. Your new items will now be downloaded and available in game.

Installing content using the automatic downloader

Another method of configuring your server to use Workshop items is to manually add it to a defined list. Here is how to do that:

1. Login to the Modern Hosting Game Panel and select the server you want to change.

2. "Stop" your server using the main button on the console page before making any changes.

3. On the left sidebar, click on "File Manager".

4. In the directory, browse to:

/home/container/Servers/unturned/WorkshopDownloadConfig.json

5. The file will open in your browser, ready to edit.

6. Enter the workshop ID numbers into the square brackets on the line that mentions "File_IDs": [],. It should initially and then finally look like the examples below.

Add each ID number on it's own line, and make sure to use a comma after each ID number, except for the last ID which needs no comma at the end.

7. In the bottom right corner, click on "Save Content" to save your changes.

8. "Start" your server using the main button on the console page.

Setting the map for your server

1. Login to the Modern Hosting Game Panel and select the server you want to change.

2. Click on "Startup" on the left sidebar.

3. Set the parameter "Map" as the name of the map. Your changes will be saved automatically.

4. "Start" your server using the main button on the console page. Your map and related assets will now be used for your server.

If the map specified fails to be loaded, please contact us and open a support ticket for assistance.
